DetailsThe default location to install CFF postscript fonts in OTF format is the /usr/share/fonts/OTF directory. Please review the installation location of fonts such as the Syriac fonts distributed as part of Xorg.

And now that I see the other adobe fonts, they have the same problem. And the packages, shouldn't they be prefixed with an "otf-" term to be consistent with other fonts in the repositories? ("ttf-" for TrueType, "type1-" for Type 1 PS and "font-" for bitmaps and sundry).

There's nothing wrong with installing the files there. fontconfig will crawl the entire tree inside the fonts folder.
