gtk2 could be replaced by aura.

It's turned on by default in Chromium 35; there's no need to specify that option in the PKGBUILD.

is gtk2 required then?

gtk2 is required because the chromium executable links to libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.

The official Chrome .deb packages also require gtk2 so I don't think it can be removed somehow.
