Details

When resizing a window in gnome-shell or mutter window resizing is very laggy, instead of butter smooth like in any previous version.
Any action that constantly creates many new window surfaces also suffers from jittery response, like clicking the global menu bar and then dragging (somewhat fast) the pointer across it is bound to delay the appearance of each sub-menu by a lot, instead of instantly hiding the previous sub-menu and showing the next one.
Another way to visualize the problem is in the VLC seek bar. While playing a video and dragging the pointer across it, a tool-tip like widget will show and in the problematic version everything gets choppy, the video, the widget and the compositor/wm.

This issue is not present in openbox and xfwm. I've also tested in a clean user account.
Downgrading from *nvidia*-337.19-1 to *nvidia*-337.12-1 "fixes" it.

This problem affects any composite manager, include compton also. I'm getting laggy response with the 337.19 on Geforce 670 card.

Working fine with 337.25. Tested both gnome-shell and compton with openbox
