DetailsDescription:
The current bind systemd unit does not restart bind if it crashes / exits. As such, if bind is running and crashes, DNS is unavailable. Logically, if you are running bind on a system, this is a VERY undesirable result. I would like to suggest modification of the shipped systemd unit file to the following: [Unit] Description=Internet domain name server After=network.target [Service] ExecStart=/usr/bin/named -f -u named ExecReload=/usr/bin/rndc reload ExecStop=/usr/bin/rndc stop Restart=always [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target This will restart bind if it exits for any other reason than being stopped by systemd. In a nutshell: If you're running bind, there is a reason for it and it shouldn't be able to exit without a damn good reason (ie being stopped). |

Otherwise, you should ask to systemd developers to allow to globally set default for Restart= parameters, if you really think everything you start should be restarted after a crash...
