When the X11-display should go into powersaving-mode,
it does not, but instead it displays a flickering screen
with weired colors. I fear that it will damage my
good (Samsung SyncMaster SA850, 24 inch) TFT-display!
The default display resolution is 1920x1200 pixel
and the display is connected via (analog) VGA-connector
to my 17 inch DELL laptop whose display has the
same display resolution.

This display-artifacts have appeared since I switched
to Arch Linux and have never happened with Ubuntu.

When the artifacts happen, moving the mouse or
typing keys on the keyboard do not help at all!!!
The only way to stop the artifacts is to switch the display
off and on again.

Architecture: x86_64
xorg-server: 1.15.1-1
nouveau-dri: 10.1.1-2
xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.10-2

Steps to reproduce:

Just enter the command: 'xset dpms force off'
or wait till the display goes into powersaving mode.

Attention: This does not happen to the internal laptop-display,
but only to the external TFT-display.

By the way: The internal display is switched off, by me.

For example you can do that with:
'xrandr --output LVDS-1 --off'

Is this still an issue? There have been tons of updates. If so please report it upstream.

Yes, this is still an issue. Where should I report it? What is upstream in this case?

Ask in #nouveau IRC channel where Nouveau devs want this to be reported. Prepare to give them some log files.

This could be ddx driver related or DRM kernel module related.
