Description:
percona-server has mariadb-clients as a dependency. The problem with mariadb-clients (and libmariadbclient) is that it is in 5.5.* version which is not compatible with percona-server 5.6. Running mysql_secure_installation fails because neither mariadb-clients nor libmariadbclient understands option --connect-expired-password. This option was introduced in mysql 5.6.12 (1).
There might exists other incomaptibilities which you can be unaware of.

The solution would be to provide packages percona-clients and libperconaclient (in correct 5.6 version) just as Percona Team do for Ubuntu: http://repo.percona.com/apt/pool/main/p/percona-server-5.6/

Additional info:
* package version(s): 5.6.*

Steps to reproduce:
* install person-server
* run mysql_secure_installation
