FS#39737 - systemd-journald going rogue! Unable to use killall, cannot reboot. Other processes hang then die.

When performing usual tasks, I noticed Chromium was being slow. Then also Dolphin as well as noticed flickering of the screen. Then back to Chromium, any further task and Chromium would be killed by system. Finally, viewing processes, I noticed systemd-journald was chewing up 25% of my entire CPU resources, way too much memory and heating my laptop up as well. As root, trying to usual killall <process> would show as accepted, however the process never was killed. Finally going to an new tty and as root, trying to reboot, the system would hang with some kind of watchdog timeout regarding shuting down alsa or something. Additional info: Anyhow, finally had to give a hard reboot. Three times now this has occured. Checking the /var/log/journal, there is no obvious text file nor anything resembling a journal. Steps to reproduce: reboot 3 times and it continues happening... |
