Sometimes I find avahi-daemon running with 100% CPU on a dual core Thinkpad T60. This seems to happen randomly, and whether or not avahi-daemon is enabled. "sudo systemctl stop avahi-daemon" seems to hang rather than stopping avahi-daemon.

I have not found a way to trigger this. It has happened after booting - but also not happened. It has also happened with avahi-daemon disabled and killed - Can avahi-daemon not be disabled?

NetworkManager is running, managing a "shared" network, which may or may not be involved.

Reason for closing:  Upstream

Well surely you realize that the information given above does not help to pinpoint the problem. All I can say is it works for me.
Could you please report this upstream? They will be better at debugging this, and there is probably not much we can do about this packaging-wise anyhow.

Yes. Another thing I could add is that this problem seemed to have started after an upgrade to systemd version 212. But then, I don't know that that is related or not. It also seems to only be a problem when avahi-daemon is starting, either booting or starting mysteriously. Maybe there was some kind of sequencing issue? I have avahi-daemon running now, and it seems to behave itself. I thought it might be useful to file the bug report to see if anyone else is experiencing this. So far, it seems to be an isolated occurrence.

Sorry to be dense, but could you tell me anything about how to register onto the upstream bug tracking site? I spent some time looking on the site, and came up short - and, right at the moment, the main site is down with "Internal Server Error". Is there a mailing list, to which to send a bug report, instead?

Okay, their old trac server is apparently in limbo.
You can try for the project ML at freedesktop: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/avahi
