Sorry. I submitted this accidentally before adding the details.

As /etc/asound.conf is a file that is expected to be edited by users. It should be added to the backup array.
I uninstalled the package and my custom asound.conf was deleted without a backup.

It's already there and has been since the package was added to the repos:
backup=(etc/asound.conf)

You didn't use pacman -Rn, did you?

I got used to -Rsncu over the years and forgot the function of the opts.
