I'm assuming this is what is preventing the slocate database from being created and updated.

$ slocate something
warning: slocate: could not open database: /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db: No such file or directory
warning: slocate: Could not find the group: slocate in the /etc/group file.
fatal error: This is a result of the group missing or a corrupted group file.
$ grep slocate /etc/group

Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  slocate needs groupadd, which is part of the shadow package now. Added it as a dependency for slocate, which should resolve this.

When installing slocate it copies /etc/group to /etc/group- and /etc/gshadow to /etc/gshadow- and then adds slocate:x:21: to /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. I don't know why you have no slocate:x:21: line in your /etc/group.

Running slocate -u will fix "warning: slocate: could not open database: /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db: No such file or directory".
