DetailsDescription:
The 10_archlinux script in /etc/grub.d does not respect GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX [1] -- it always emits "set gfxpayload=keep". It would be nice to have support for this variable since some users want (or need) to boot Linux with a text mode console. A somewhat ugly workaround until this is implemented is to add "vga=normal" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX; while the "vga" parameter is deprecated in Grub 2, it is still recognized and Grub automatically sets gfxpayload=text when booting the entry [2]. Alternatively, it *may* also work to set GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=console or GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=vga_text (untested). Set GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text in /etc/default/grub. 2. Run grub-mkconfig. 3. Observe that "gfxpayload=keep" is emitted instead of "gfxpayload=text" for Arch Linux entries. |
