activating the compositor I get an artifact in the top left corner.
Deactivating the compositor solves the problem.

I suppose you just enabled transparency for the window...

Place your mouse pointer above the window decoration, press Alt-key and scroll with your mouse wheel to change transparency level.

I've managed to get some windows transparent and didn't known why. Now i know.
However there is no reason why transparency should cause artifacts. This happend to me few times with chromium too.

There's no artifacts but the window below. Your screenshot shows a browser window with transparency, a terminal window with zsh prompt below. No?

Alt + scrolling seems to be assigned to the zooming functionality in Xfce 4.12 and I can't figure out how transparency is controlled now.

I've never noticed any artifacts with the compositor enabled so unless someone can point to an issue here, I'll close this task in a week.
