Dear Maintainer(s),
since SZIP is essentially non-free, although the corresponding patents are no longer, and our share-holders wanted to use it in other libraries (libcdi) for another file format (GRIB), DKRZ provides a free implementation of the same algorithms at [1]. It also appears that there has been a package in the AUR for libaec since 2015-07-19, which is after this feature request was filed.
