I've tried to install KDE 3.5.1 from testing repository and found out that artsd crashes on startup of sound systtem (i.e. when KDE is started or when I press "Test Sound" button in a Control Centre). I've changed no options in default configuration (i.e. it uses "Autodetect" sound system etc) and sound drivers are fully functional.

It will hardy help. I saw the similar problem first in KDE 3.5.0 Slackware packages - the only way to stop arts from crashing was to set it to "No sound". If you are using non-null output device, it will crash. As for Slackware, the bundle arts 1.4.0 + KDE 3.5.0 produces the same result (i.e. crash) but arts 1.5.0 + KDE 3.4.2 (Slackware default) worked just fine. I can do additional debugging on Arch system if you wish

If 3.5.1 issue as the same as 3.5.0, I've observed it on two different laptops with different built-in audiocards (one was via82xxxx and the second... I don't remember).

KDE 3.5.1 is still in /testing? Is there any schedule on putting it into /extra?

it will come to extra when yorg is moved out of testing, probably this week
