The kernel doesn't have support for USB-CD drives.

A workaround is to copy the additional modules to a partition with i.e.
ext2 and use it as source.

Also, (v)fat support would be nice.

It's with the install-cd "arch-0.7.1.iso" and the necessary modules are
in the addon "mods-usb.tar.bz2". But, to load them it needs to access
the cd-drive...

I'm sorry if this bug is allready reported. If so, I didn't find it.

vfat should be included on the install CD already.

By default, the install CD tries to load USB modules for the main three host controllers: UHCI, OHCI, and EHCI.

what kind of host controller do you have?

Okay, I don't know how wrote the damn bad description of that bug. ;)
I'll try to explain it, hopefully much more clear, again.

The normal kernel you boot with the install CD doesn't have support for
USB devices. The usb modules are in mods-usb.tar.bz2.

But, if you've allready booted from a usb-cd-drive. Thoose archives
arn't accessible, due to the missing usb support in the kernel.

Totally agree with Daniel: the USB modules are loaded AFTER the install CD has been mount. But in the case of a usb-cd drive, USB modules are needed to mount it.
I think those usb modules should be in the initrd.img.

Plus: could it be possible to add nls_cp437 module in mods-fs.tar.bz2 since it is required to mount vfat fs?
