Details

When building exfat-git (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/exfat-git)
I get this error message in the logs:

scripts/basic/fixdep.c:462:1: fatal error: opening dependency file scripts/basic/.fixdep.d: Permission denied
}

Other kernels (default ARCH linux and linux-ck) doesn't have it.
I'm not sure, but it looks like it's new with the latest release: 3.10.29-1-lts

The build succeeds and looks ok but is untested.

Ok, looks like it's on the exfat side (new patch to Makefile for building as stand alone.)
