I keep my music and other media files on a networked machine that I access via a CIFS mount. In my home directory I have symlinks to the various directories. If for whatever reason the CIFS mount is inaccessible, such as the network machine is powered off, when I open thunar it just hangs with a blank screen. All things that touches such unavailable CIFS mountpoint will hang, and there is nothing such a timeout to configure.
