Ingo,

Could you provide a little more detail? Errors if you spawn evolution from an xterm?

It works fine for me and many others.

Sorry, no xterm output. Evolution starts without leaving error messages on xterm or terminal, and the tree-view is filled with empty lines. Symbols (envelopes f.e.) appear, but no fonts.

Ingo,

I could not find any other reports or resolutions to this problem, and it doesn't look to be Arch specific at the moment.

Your best bet is to ask in Evolution IRC or on their mailling list.

Server irc.gnome.org channel #evolution
or http://www.ximian.com/support/free.html

If you do find it is a problem with the Arch package, please let me know and I'll attempt to fix it.

Best of Luck,

Dale

I agree so far. But please consider if it could be a dep problem, while you say it works fine for many. My arch is fresh installed. I installed only a base in the first step, and only use current arch packages. Therefore, I think, a package is missing that evolution needs to display letters in the tree-view.

I'm definately aware it could be a dependancy problem, which is mainly why I asked for any output in your xterm (like libxxxx.so could not be found).

I ask you to check with the evolution people because they will know way better than I what could cause no text to be displayed.

I too had tested the current evolution package on a base system for the same reason, and it worked IIRC.

Ingo,

I asked some of the developers and they say it might either be a broken IMAP server that you're connecting to, or a problem with pango.

Please run
ls -l /usr/etc/pango/pango.modules
and
pango-querymodules | wc -c
and report the output here... the size should match.

If not, please uninstall and reinstall pango, and see if that fixes your problem.

IMAP server bug. If headers aren't showing up in the message list, the first question to ask is, "Are you using web.de IMAP?"
