Details

avahi: depends=('dbus' 'libcap' 'libdaemon' 'nss-mdns')

nss-mdns: depends=('avahi')

Cannot build those packages here while porting for Arch64. I'm a bit confused. Somebody must be joking...

I think you could just get rid of the nss-mdns dependency in the avahi PKGBUILD, as the avahi dependency in nss-mdns is needed to take advantage of avahi.

Looks like this was fixed, just have nss-mdns depend on glibc and avahi depend on nss-mdns

Related: This cyclic dependancy, now that it's been broken. is causing pacman to tell people that avahi and nss-mdns conflict on an -Syu
Forum Thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=139370#139370

Basically, if you run a -Syu now, it says that avahi and nss-mdns conflict. If you manually -S nss-mdns to update to the newest package, then -Syu this problem goes away.
