The spellchecking support requires a wxWidgets toolkit that uses GTK+ 3, but our wxgtk package in [extra] still uses GTK+ 2.

Would it be possible to provide a variation wxgtk package, built with Gtk+ 3 ? Spellchecking is really a feature that avoids a lot of silly yet ugly typos in translations...

Poedit developer here. I'll release 1.6.4 this week (hopefully today, but in any case by the end of the week) that will restore GTK+ 2 compatibility. You could then just use the same dependencies and configure flags as with Poedit 1.5.

updated to 1.6.4, hopefully my build-fix.patch does not break spellchecking

Please use https://github.com/vslavik/poedit/releases/download/v1.6.4-oss/poedit-1.6.4b.tar.gz tarball instead. I screwed up packaging (sorry!), as should have been obvious from the changes you had to apply to make it compile. A quick email to upstream would take you less time and would be a way better way to deal with he screw-up.

This patch is similarly bad as your previous one: that one broke upgrades, this one leaves nonfunctional bits of UI in place.
