Have you read the documentation for this option?

Unrestricted access to all LEDs requires that thinkpad-acpi be
compiled with the CONFIG_THINKPAD_ACPI_UNSAFE_LEDS option enabled.
Distributions must never enable this option. Individual users that
are aware of the consequences are welcome to enabling it.

@Dave Reisner (falconindy)
Sorry, I haven't.
Can we apply the following patch then?

A nearly 3 year old patch which hasn't been merged? Seems equally unlikely that we're going to be carrying that for you. If you want to see this feature, you'll probably want to resurrect the discussion that ended abruptly on ibm-acpi-dev:

http://marc.info/?l=ibm-acpi-devel&m=130652086217381&w=4

Other distros (I checked Ubuntu and Fedora) do not apply this patch in their kernel build.

Well, the work haven't stopped. ALSA developers are working on micmute led toggling but the patches would be applied only in 3.14 I believe.
Newer patches are more complex and include both ALSA and thinkpad-acpi patching.
