Search doesn't show them https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort=&q=mpv but when you view the details of a package (that has a version in a staging repo) https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/mpv/ you can see the packages from staging repositories:

Versions Elsewhere
mpv 0.3.2-1 [community] (i686)
mpv 0.3.2-2 [community-staging] (i686)
mpv 0.3.2-2 [community-staging] (x86_64)

Would it be possible to hide them from the online database altogether?

No. We put them in there on purpose. Why does the presence of a few extra links bother you?

It doesn't bother me at all. I thought it's a bug, since they don't show up in the search.

Feel free to close this report.

Aha, OK. The reason they don't show up in search was more for backward compatibility once they were added. They actually DO show up if you are logged in (e.g. a developer).
