Description:
I get extreme video tearing after the last update. I have tried the /etc/environment workaround but it does not work. TearFree option on xorg almost removes it, but slows down X. I am using SandyBridge and Cinnamon desktop environment.

Using the previous version, there was no tearing at all, using the same configuration.

Additional info:
* package version(s): 2.99.907-1

* config and/or log files etc.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

/etc/environment:
#
# This file is parsed by pam_env module
#
# Syntax: simple "KEY=VAL" pairs on separate lines
#
CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling

Steps to reproduce:
- Update to the latest version
- Start the X server (with Cinnamon at least)

Can you provide Xorg and kernel log ?

Same here on cinnamon with newest nvidia binary blob. it's probably related with xorg 1.15 update. Tearing is extremely visible in XBMC.

I noticed tearing (probably since last update) in cmplayer. Playing the same 25iHZ-x264 with vlc seems fine so far. I am on a Celeron 847 with built in HD 2000 Graphics.

Please check 2.99.908!

I have intel graphics (00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)) and was not seeing any issues through to xf86-video-intel 2.99.907-2, but since upgrading to 2.99.908-1 I started seeing video tearing/corruption when using Thunderbird. After downgrading back to 2.99.907-2 things seem back to normal again, so it looks like there are problems with the .908 package.

I should add that my D.E. is KDE - although mostly there are no video issues other than complete video tearing in Thunderbird in random emails which are sometimes but not always reproducible when reloading the application.

I can add, in GNOME I have heavy corruption in synergy, and gnome-tweak-tool (especially the Extensions page). 2.99.907-2 does not show the issue for me.
both apps were near unusable in parts, always reproducible on my machine just by launching them with 2.99.908

Once more: get in touch with upstream!

Chris has released a patch fixing the problem.

Attached PKGBUILD incorporating it. Does this solve the issue you reported, jack?

Looks like xf86-video-intel 2.99.909 is out fixing this: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2014-February/056385.html

Confirming this bug. I get heavy visual artifacting with this update on my Lenovo X230i. Downgrading to 907-2 fixed the problem.

I just updated to 2.99.909 - unfortunately I still get video corruption with this version in Thunderbird running in KDE in archlinux, so I have again downgraded back to .907

So unfortunately there is still a bug in version xf86-video-intel 2.99.909-1

I also confirm this bug when using chromium. Tearing is noticeable on the tabs in chromium. This occurs in both 2.99.908-1 and 2.99.909-1.

also confirm , graphical anomalies under GNOME , hardware 2013 macbook air

downgrading to 2.99.907-2 solve the issue

The new package in [testing] was released a short time ago ( 2.99.909-2 ) containing all the commits from upstream issued since .909 was released up to this evening - and so far this version gives me no further incidences of video corruption. So for me this is now fixed.

If others confirm that this new package resolves the video issues for them also then this report can be closed.
