When I try to run gtkpod (0.99.2-2, because 0.94 works) I get immediatly

[cimi@just4fun ~]$ gtkpod
libhal.c 2568 : LibHalContext *ctx is NULL

As the message says, libHalContext *ctx is NULL, which means it fails to connect to HAL.
This bug is caused by two bugs:
- User bug: user should run the hal daemon
- Software bug: gtkpod should check for a connection error and bail out with a normal message, or continue without hal.

libgpod is the library that makes these hal calls, assigning to Arjan
