gdm does not start at all.

I have read those messages in /var/log/messages :
Jan 24 16:28:13 nautilus gdm[3158]: gdm_config_parse : serveur X standard non trouvé, essaye des alternatives
Jan 24 16:28:19 nautilus gdm[3158]: deal_with_x_crashes : exécution du script XKeepsCrashing

Those messages are in french, here are in english :

I have put the gdm in the inittab as the respawn program of the level 5 :
x:5:respawn:/opt/gnome/sbin/gdm

I forgot to precise that I use the version : 2.8.0.7-5

This is caused by -4, which changed all your /usr/X11R6 paths to /usr in /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/gdm.conf. There's a pacnew file in there you might want to use. The -5 version of gdm shouldn't have problems with non-testing setups AFAIK.
