hello

the current version of quodlibet 0.17 as well as the 0.16 doesn't play any mp3. I mean by this that I installed the gst-plugins-mad for mp3 support but when I try to play one song, nothing happens, no sound, no movement of the progress bar...

The default sink used is alsasink, this might be a bug of gstreamer but I don't know how to use the oss emulation.

Best regards, Brice

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  Glad you got it working :-)

Closing as "not a bug" because it isn't a packaging bug,

Try starting it from a terminal, post the results here when adding and playing an MP3.
Over here it works fine:
[jan@server ~]$ quodlibet
Supported formats: flac, mp3, oggvorbis
Loaded song library.
Opening audio device.
*** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice
*** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice
*** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice
*** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice
Saving library.

Here it is, just after starting quodlibet:

[brice@TuxBox:~]$ quodlibet
Supported formats: flac, mp3, oggvorbis
Loaded song library.
Opening audio device.

Can you please try to reproduce with another gstreamer-using application such as rhythmbox, jamboree, muine or banshee?
Comment by Brice (bricem13) - Friday, 20 January 2006, 19:12 GMT
Hello

jamboree is working flawlessly.

Dunno what's wrong with quodlibet.

Best regards, Brice

ps: one thing is remarquable although in jamboree: it is unable to give the track length so the progression bar is not working.

Hi

I got it working! It seems to be a gstreamer problem:

[brice@TuxBox:~]$ gst-launch-0.8 filesrc location=mp3/infectious_grooves/groove_family_cyco/made_it.mp3 ! spider ! alsasink
RUNNING pipeline ...

whereas:

[brice@TuxBox:~]$ gst-launch-0.8 filesrc location=mp3/infectious_grooves/groove_family_cyco/made_it.mp3 ! spider ! osssink

works.

Therefore, there should be the option pipeline = osssink in ~/.quodlibet/config

Best regards,

Brice
