I suggest evolution-data-server to be moved to optdepends in gnome-shell.

Current version (3.10.*) of gnome shell only seems to require evolution-data-server for displaying calendar events in top panel. However it can be run perfectly fine without it.

Uninstalling e-d-s only seems to remove events pane from the right side of the gnome shell's top bar calendar menu, which is something you don't really need unless you're using calendar.

I believe there are many gnome users that don't use evolution or other calendar application with gnome (including myself). For those, having evolution-data-center installed only adds to gnome's memory footprint, and also makes the top bar calendar menu more cluttered without any benefit.
