It's possible to specify a config file with Marco d'Itri's version of whois client. However this does not work with Arch package of whois. In the strace output attached, we can see that the whois client never looks at /etc/whois.conf. This works well with Debian, which is also using Marco d'Itri's client. Strace confirms open("/etc/whois.conf", O_RDONLY) under Debian. Additional info: * package version: 5.0.26 * config: $ cat /etc/whois.conf \.dn42$ 172.22.177.77 Steps to reproduce: - Use config above - Perform whois on a domain within .dn42 zone. Output: $ whois whois nixnodes.dn42 No whois server is known for this kind of object. |
