Description:

When running the open source video driver for ati graphics chips, starting from Southern Islands, glamor is the default acceleration method. This acceleration method causes a number of issues.

* Certain icons are missing from the notification area, such as xfce4-power-manager and hexchat.
* Logging out from xfce4: when the logout menu is supposed to be displayed, the system becomes unresponsive. Mouse moves but nothing happens. Switching to a different tty (ctrl+alt+f2) and back (ctrl+alt+f2) unfreezes the system and displays the logout menu, however, the background is garbage.
* Taking screenshots (using xfce4-screenshooter) gives similar issues. It does not take a screenshot until switched to another tty and back, and the output is garbage again.

When overriding the acceleration method to EXA, the said problems do not occur.

Installing xf86-video-ati-git from yaourt causes my system to freeze upon starting X. I cannot switch to another tty or anything. However, I can still access the machine over ssh.

The glamot-elg-git with the xf86-video-ati-git starts, but the problem remains.
