The version in current (2.1.11) seems to have been released in 2003. The latest version (2.2.1) was released towards the end of 2005. The main problem I've found is that the old pci.ids file results in incorrect or no information being given for reasonably new hardware.

I realise the package has been flagged out of date but it doesn't say when so for all I know it could have been forgotten about.
