If you go to certain pages in Wikipedia while using Konqueror, your browser will crash. There is no error message, and for some reason the KDE crash manager does not appear.

Here is a random example of a page that will crash Konqueror:

Attached is the console output from Konqueror during the crash.

Note that this bug affects both Extra and Testing versions.

not reproducable here, seems a font specific problem on your machine probably.

Any possible workaround? I've got Konqueror using the default fonts for rendering pages... My widgets do use Snap, but that shouldn't make a difference should it?
Comment by Pierre Schmitz (Pierre) - Thursday, 12 January 2006, 05:34 GMT
I can confirm this problem. See http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=204076

However, the new KDE from testing does not seem to have this problem.

I'm using the packages from Testing, and was to begin with - and that page *invariably* crashes Konq on my machine.

If this is a font problem, is there any way it could have something to do with using bitmap fonts (Snap) for widgets?

(For the stuff on web pages, I'm using Bitstream Vera fonts as per Konqeror defaults.)
Comment by Pierre Schmitz (Pierre) - Thursday, 12 January 2006, 20:22 GMT
I do not think that this is a font problem. I tested with a new profile. And I have to say that a lot of KDE-Apps are crashing, for example KMail.

True enough, the multimedia stuff that uses the ARTS playback engine is very finicky - Noatun will crash if you try to stream an MP3 or a movie, and I've seen the embedded plugin cause hard-freezes when trying to play MP3 files. Haven't seen KMail crash, but I don't use it...

Perhaps there is something going on between GCC 4 and the base libraries? Just a thought... I do remember that, before the big transition, streaming media stuff worked, stuff that crashes Noatun as of now. Could that be a lead?

happens here too with the wikipedia link:

testing/kdebase 3.5.0-6
testing/kdelibs 3.5.0-9

takes a while to load, presents a blank pages then suddenly closes the window.
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Wednesday, 25 January 2006, 17:48 GMT
can't reprodruce here it works fine in 3.5.1 hope t works for you too then when i release the packages on weekend

Crash still occurs in 3.5.1 for me. Now the KDE crash manager actually activates though. Here's the updated console output...
