DetailsHad a repeated (3x) problem installing grub to the MBR of a disc that had previously had its MBR written using LILO (a Frugalware installation), when installing more than just the base packages from the 0.7.1pre (full as opposed to base) iso CD. Although the installation stated that grub had been installed correctly, it refused to boot and gave grub error 15 (or 17) from memory.
Selecting only the base packages during installation allowed grub to successfully overwrite the MBR and subsequently boot properly. I believe I had experienced the same problem with a previous (v0.6) installation. Not sure if this is covered by other installation bug reports but thought it was worth reporting. |
This task depends upon
Do you have a separate /boot partition? If so, what filesystem?
No separate /boot partition.
Installed 0.7.1 (all apps) with lilo as a bootloader on a system with hda1 as / and hda2 as swap. Repeated the install, this time using grub. No problems rebooting.
