Looks like somehow the resolution for pango isn't set correctly. What (desktop) environment are you using with firefox?

Could you post the contents of ~/.fonts.conf?

I didn't mean /etc/fonts/fonts.conf (or what is left of it after posting), but the fonts.conf in your homedir, located in /home/username/.fonts.conf.
Comment by alexandre (_alexmyself) - Tuesday, 03 January 2006, 20:53 GMT
sorry for the post.. :)
next i'll try "attach a file"

i have nice understood '/home/username/.fonts.conf.' the first time, but
there is no other '*fonts.conf*' that the one in /etc/font/ in my hard drive
it's why i've post this one

I just hit this as well ... and found a fix:

In addition to changing the font settings for your default character encoding (in my case Western) you need to change them for "Other Languages" as well. (Apparently not every page loads with your default encoding, and when that happens, default font settings are applied.)

In the dialog where you change the minimum font, go to the top "Fonts for:" pulldown, and select "Other Languages" and then set the same settings there. Should fix the problem.

I'm switching the renderer to xft instead of pango today. It should solve these problems, but it will also render pages 10 times faster, even when using the pango 1.11 branch (pango 1.10.x is slow compared to 1.11.x, but both are even slower compared to plain xft).

Just to be curious: do you happen to have a nvidia card and you're using the non-free drivers?

Don't know about everyone else, but in my case the fonts were small in Firefox 1.5 due to the fact that the default resolution was set to 96 dpi whereas it had been set to "system resolution" in prior versions.

Going to: Edit / Preferences / Content / Advanced

and changing the resolution back to "system resolution" fixed them for me.

Hope this helps someone else.
