Description:

Wifi on my Dell XPS 13, which has a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235 AGN chipset that uses the iwlwifi driver, is extremely unstable. I takes ages to connect and when it does connect, the connection drops in under 5 minutes. Sometimes I am able to reconnect, but most of the times it doesn't work. My journal is riddled with error messages and sometimes the whole pc freezes for a couple of seconds, due to the iwlwifi driver. Thus, wifi is almost completely unusable.

I have tried adding the options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 to modprobe, but that only marginally improves the stability. Below is an excerpt of the critical part of the log where the wifi actually dies:

Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failed to load firmware chunk!
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Could not load the [0] uCode section
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failed to start RT ucode: -110
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failing on timeout while stopping DMA channel 0 [0x5a5a5a5a]
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failing on timeout while stopping DMA channel 2 [0x5a5a5a5a]
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failing on timeout while stopping DMA channel 5 [0x5a5a5a5a]
Sep 10 10:16:42 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Failing on timeout while stopping DMA channel 7 [0x5a5a5a5a]
Sep 10 10:16:44 LAPTOP_BEN kernel: iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: Unable to initialize device.

In the attached log file there is more output, gathered over the last couple of days. The problem becomes worse after suspending. If I modprobe -r iwlwifi and iwldvm and modprobe them later, the device is gone until a full reboot.

Additional info:
* journalctl log excerpt in attachment
* My problem is the same as posted here (http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel.wireless.general/108488), but that post does not offer a solution

Steps to reproduce:
Use wifi, especially after suspend

Reason for closing:  Upstream

Probably a firmware issue, which is a binary thing we can't change. Intel is to blame here, their 6230 and 6235 products have the same issues in windows.

Please take this upstream to intel if the issue persists. As Jan said, there is nothing we can do...

Apparently this is an issue that has been ongoing for more than a year. In this monstrous thread on the intel support website, Intel fails to work out a solution each and every time:https://communities.intel.com/message/206556#206556

It seems the best solution is to buy a new wireless device. Anyway, thanks for trying to help!
