If I build the package firefox-kde-opensuse from AUR APNG files are only displayed as static images. If I rebuild the package after enabling the option for not using system-libpng and instead using the bundled libpng the animations are displayed.

Is there any way to test the installed libpng build for APNG support?

If you need further information, please ask.

APNG support is enabled in libpng through the related apng patch.

You should check if the official firefox package behaves the same on your machine and provide example APNG images that don't work.

I've tested the official firefox package which worked as it should. After that I've rebuild the AUR-package which works now, too. I don't know why all of that happened. Sorry for that invalid bug report, you can close it now.
