Hi,
the old installer really has several problems: * hardware detection with hotplug has problems, even with network cards like realtek 8139too * initrd is missing * autogenerated fstab has devfs naming! * old group files and so on If you install from 0.7 you have to cope with all these things by hand. You have to make network run, editing configs. After that you update and have a bunch of .pacnew files you have to write over the old configs by hand. Now you need to re-edit rc.conf - the configuration possibilities in the installer are rendered useless. Now after you did all this, you still have to correct the paths in fstab and grub config. At this stage you perhaps found yourself adding modules etc. by hand as they weren't autoloaded... but the new udev would autoload them for you. All in all, stuck with a very outdated installation doc (which for example states you need devfs and so on) a new user can't figure out these steps easily himself. He would also think: Why do I have to do all this stuff after I only updated a clean install? I think getting out 0.7.1 should get high priority :) And therefor fill this Request :) |

Bear in mind that it is the holiday season now, and the volunteers aren't volunteering as much as volunteers typically volunteer. :)
Merry Christmas.
