Description:
After update of refind-efi package to 0.7.3-1 version, and copying of correspondent files (refind_x64.efi, drivers, tools, refind.conf, refind_linux.conf) to boot partition, can't boot any OS after computer restart. (I have a dual boot Win7 64bit and ArchLinux.) When I switch on my computer, it shows me post screen, then refind screen with an option to choose OS I want to boot, but when I select any of them, it simply hangs. I've tried to manually download package from archlinux site and copied files to boot partition, problem still persists. Then I've downloaded binary package from http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/ and copied files to boot partition, and it works. (Works with both packages refind-bin-0.7.3.zip and refind-bin-gnuefi-0.7.3.zip) More informations can be found on https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=168051

Steps to reproduce:
After update refind-efi to 0.7.3-1, copy corresponding files from /usr/share/refind to /boot partition and restart computer.

Please try 0.7.3-2 from testing if it solves your issue.

I've upgraded refind-efi to 0.7.3-2, copied files to boot partition and problem is back again. It doesn't work again. Can't boot any OS.
So, I've downloaded refind binary zip package from http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/, copied files and it works.

@Bojan: Can you try refind-efi-git pkg in AUR? See if that fixes the issue.

refind-efi works for me with qemu and ovmf.

Bojan,

Please post your CPU make and model, as well as firmware information. ("dmesg | grep -i EFI" should produce a line like "EFI v2.10 by TianoCore.org" or "EFI v2.31 by American Megatrends", among other information.) Your computer make and model may also be useful.

FWIW, I was unable to reproduce this under VirtualBox or on a system with an ASUS P8H77-I motherboard (with AMI EFI 2.31 and an Intel CPU).

I'm also experiencing this issue, even with refind-efi 0.7.3-2. Have to use package from link in description. Although in my case this bug only affects Arch (64bit version kernel), I'm dual booting with Windows 8 which can boot normal while Arch hangs.

JH, you're probably suffering from bug #33745 (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/33745), which is an EFI stub loader (kernel) bug that interacts strangely with the boot manager and affects mostly Lenovo systems.

I've been experiencing this since previous release of refind (that means same release as Recoba20's), but I don't have this laptop so long (since July), so this could be a coincidence and you may be right.

I've updated to the latest version 0.7.4-1 and problems are gone. I can boot both OS. Thanks everyone.
