Description:
On my laptop Samsung RV520-S04 with Nvidia GT520M I don't have control on backlight from X session programs such as xrandr, xbacklight.
Since I have /sys/class/backlight/nv_backlight/brightness I can "echo $value >..." to it in a root shell and it actually adjusts LCD backlight level, so it works fine at kernel level.
xrandr shows no backlight control in properties
Similar bug was already fixed at #30798.

Additional info:

xorg-xrandr 1.4.1-1
libxrandr 1.4.1-1
linux 3.10.5-1

* config and/or log files etc.
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf

Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nouveau"

Steps to reproduce:
It's hardware related;
This laptop is a Samsung RV520-S04, it has a Nvidia GT520M as sole video card (NO Optimus).
Probably this could be reproduced on another laptop with a nvidia card supported by nouveau, which would set backlight through ACPI.

nvidiabl is no official pkg. how is this related?

should backlight control without that additional utility or was the bug in an older version of nvidiabl on your system without that commit?

can we close this bug?

Backlight does not worked with nouveau driver and nvidia official driver. With nvidiabl solved problem. It's bug in driver because DSDT fixed by me and it's does not helped.
