There's really no reason for calibre to check for updates. Unfortunately, updates can only be disabled through a runtime flag. Please consider adding `--no-update-check` to the desktop file's Exec field. I have attached an updated desktop_integration.patch.

I'd like to keep the package as vanilla as possible, would it be possible if you could get the patch upstream?

Upstream doesn't support third party packaging and they *want* update checking for people updating directly from them. I can't imagine that they'd accept something like this.

Question: does this disable checking for update of Calibre only or of plugins as well? If the it's the latter, I'd be against this.

The patch attached to the bugreport doesn't apply. Also I don't think it's very useful to disable it ( it's not that annoying )
