I'm sure it will work again after VLC 2.1.0 release. Until then, could you point to an example video file?

I think all h264 file won't work. Example:
http://clips.vorwaerts-gmbh.de/big_buck_bunny.mp4

Audio works fine

I can confirm this issue.

Edit: reverted back x264,ffmpeg and vlc and everything works again.

It seems other codecs are affected to. I just received and error about 'DIV3'. The same file played fine the other day.

I had the same issue. I believe it is also present in mplayer-vaapi, it seems like the latest x264 and/or ffmpeg is kind of broken. To get VLC working again (and mplayer-vaapi half working), like above, I just downgraded ffmpeg, x264, vlc and mplayer-vaapi.
