Description:

Nouveau video driver.

Starting with kernel 3.9, resuming from hibernate results in a completely blank screen (backlight off ?), preceded by a short period of blank screen with flashing cursor in the top LH corner. It would appear that the resume has succeeded, since it is possible to (blindly) CTRL/ALT/F1, log in, then reboot the system.

GPU is an onboard Nvidia GeForce 8. lspci gives the following information -
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C77 [GeForce 8300] (rev a2)

Previously working with kernel 3.8.11 and earlier.

**** Works OK with kernel 3.10.2 after switching to the proprietary driver NVIDIA 319.32-4

Similar problem with suspend also.

Additional info:

* package version(s)
xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.8-1
libdrm 2.4.46-2
udev (systemd) 204-3
nouveau-dri 9.1.5-1
linux 3.9.any, 3.10.2

* config and/or log files etc.
Journal covering the period of a failed hibernate/resume with kernel 3.10.2 - attached
Journal covering the period of a successful hibernate/resume with kernel 3.8.11 - attached

With kernel 3.9 and 3.10, but not with 3.8.11 and earlier, the following error (red) message appears in the journal at boot time -
nouveau E[ PBUS][0000:02:00.0] MMIO read of 0x00020002 FAULT at 0x100220
repeated a couple of times with slightly different values after the 'FAULT at'.
This doesn't appear to cause any problems with the actual boot however, but could be relevant.

Steps to reproduce:

Call 'systemctl hibernate' then restart the system.

Note:

Although this bug may well be upstream, 'nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs' states the following -
"If you are using packages from your distribution, send the bug reports to your distribution and not directly to us"
so I'm reporting it here.

Comment by Alastair Joiner (ahdj) - Tuesday, 20 August 2013, 20:55 GMT
This bug has been cleared after upgrading to the latest version of Nouveau -
mesa-libgl (9.1.6-1)
nouveau-dri (9.1.6-1)
xf86-video-nouveau (1.0.9-1)

Still getting the 'nouveau E[ PBUS][0000:02:00.0] MMIO read of 0x00020002 FAULT at 0x100220' at boot, but this doesn't cause any obvious problems.

Closing the call.
