Description:
This is recent, too. At least with facebook chat, which is one I use. Could be a bug from the faceboot chat service and there's nothing we can do about it, but anyway, if someone can reproduce this bug with other XMPP chat accounts... anyway:

I can confirm the same bug vith the same telepathy version an KDE IM.

This only happens with Facebook chat. I remember I could use Gtalk, which uses the XMPP/Jabber protocol, and no problems there.

Seems like only Empathy and KDE IM are affected, as this does not occur in Pidgin. Well Pidgin doesn't use telepathy, so it's definetely a telepathy problem. I'll try to rebuild telepathy-glib and telepathy-gabble (they are outdated) and see what happens.

edit: rebuilding the packages above didn't do any difference.

I'm having the same problem.
Also some of facebook contacts show up without name. Their names are replaced by code like this: "-100000265336883@chat.facebook.com".

Without the avatar and the name its just impossible to know who my contacts are.
And I guess the messages notifications are not been showed.

There have been updates to most of the packages mentioned here, is this still an issue?

Still an issue, only with Facebook chat: now the avatars don't even show up.
