There is already a "quassel-client-light" package in AUR for those that want a stripped version.

Spell checking doesn't work.
It seems that there should be an "About KDE" menu entry when KDE features are enabled.

Somehow rebuilding locally (just the client) fixed this.

Quassel depends on kdelibs now and is compiled with KDE=1. Is it still not working correctly?

No, it is a split package and kdelibs is missing from makedepends
