Is there any error message when trying to play the stream?

If not, this might be a known upstream bug: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=383328

Check if the process gvfsd-http is running and using memory after you tried to play the stream with Rhythmbox. If so, kill it and the stream will play. You have to repeat this everytime you want to play any stream.

There is no error message and killing gvsd-http does indeed make the stream play.

Is this fixed with gnome 3.10 from testing?
