FS#35899  is closed as not a bug while it's a bug. Or does rendering userland application unusable by adding /bin to the PATH is no longer considered an issue?
Although this is only related to a narrow set of distros yet I'm reporting this upstream: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/7181 and will track the status here.

Remove the symlinks from your PATH. That was done in the filesystem package (/etc/profile).
