After plugging in an ethernet cable, instead of using my TPLINK WN822N, I think this may be related to an issue with the wireless adapter. However, until the driver is fixed for the usb adapter, I cannot be sure that skype is not causing the issue. It happens that since Skype streams continuously, that I notice if the connection breaks.

Without more specific information about what can be done to reproduce the problem and how you can tell that the problem has appeared, it's hard to know where to report this and harder to get it fixed. If you are sure that it is Skype that is at fault, please report it upstream to the Skype developers.

At issue are three variables : Webcam (Lifecam HD 5000), Wifi Adapter (TP-LINK TL-WN822N version 2.0) and Skype. I have already filed a bug report regarding the webcam use with empathy <https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/35402?project=1&cat%5B0%5D=2&string=empathy>. I will be trying an alternate webcam and checking if I have the same issue.

I have managed to get the same internet crash while running a gchat video call the gmail browser plugin.
Comment by Alexander F. Rødseth (xyproto) - Sunday, 02 June 2013, 18:28 GMT
I see. Guess we can exclude Skype, then. Do you experience the crash when the webcam is not involved, with other internet usage?

If the crash is only related to the webcam, it could be the webcam module (in the Linux kernel) or the hardware itself.

My internet doesn't crash when running pandora streaming or justintv. It only crashes when running a gmail video chat or a skype video call. As I stated the issues seem to be fixed when I plug in an ethernet cable. It is likely I am looking at two errors : Lifecam HD 5000 not working properly, and wifi usb card not working properly. Where can I report errors with my lifecam HD5000?

All right, I have been contacting the ath9k mailing list and it seems a change to WEP encryption removed my skype and gchat issues. So there is something going wrong with wpa2 encrypted connections.

Thanks for investigating. Assigning to wpa_supplicant, which I think may be the right package for this.

I have modified my /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf to use eapol_version=2

--Update : Edit didn't stop the disconnecting.

I am now trying to just wrap the tplink windows xp driver with ndiswrapper and seeing if that fails as well.

Update : I contacted the ath9k-htc mailing list and the issue is linked to my usb wifi device constantly disconnecting; the issue is being debugged.

I don't use this software anymore so unless anyone else has any issues with skype and lifecam hd5000, I suggest closing this bug.
