I have attached an amended PKGBUILD and a new u1backend.patch file which makes /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/duplicity/backends/u1backend.py match what is confirmed to work in Ubuntu.

I don't backup to Ubuntu One, can someone please confirm this works?

It worked. Thanks!
BUT: I had to replace the url by this one to be able to makepkg:
source=("http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/$pkgname/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz"{,.sig}
