could you please explain yourself some more ?
cause it didn't get the question, you want us to configure your hardware mixing or something ?

yes, for example the sound of the game unreal tournament2003 doesn't run when launch under kde as long as arts running, it's possible to tell kde work with alsa but if dmix is not configured (and that's my problem..) alsa doesn't make anything better.
it's the same if a video player window is open and then try listen music with xmms or others : no sound for the last one.

the configuration of dmix is a problem for me.
a good dmix configuration is a nice solution for me.
there was a bash script in french forum that install alsa and configure dmix but it doesn't run anymore on my laptop.

if that can help you...

i hope i've been more clear this time :)

i know this is not a big problem but there are many people (like me..) who fail and are affraid by the config of dmix :)

actually alsa should do better - have You tried something like two xine-using programs with default conifigurations (like kaffeine + amarok)?

in general - since alsa-lib 1.0.9 (and kernel-2.6.13 for drivers) it automagically "dmixes" all alsa-using applications - no need to configure dmix manually (in "normal" cases).

i've tried xine, vlc and noatun reading video at the same time and it works
for the game unreal tournament i need to use the suspend sound option in kde center and set it to one second for the sound of the game works

between my first message and this one there was an alsa update, now everything work correctly, thank you
