Description:

There are tons of issues while used with yum. Since RedHat developers haven't bothered to make a release, we need to pick the big patch they have in their package to solve the issues, since they don't bother with releases any more.

wget 'http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/python-urlgrabber.git/plain/urlgrabber-HEAD.patch?id=cb2d39c735464aa65942eb18969f4ba5a539c04a' -O urlgrabber-3.9.1-24.patch

With this patch I confirm yum works correctly. This patch is what they use for Fedora 18.

Additional info:
* version: 3.9.1

Steps to reproduce:
* Use yum

A 2,300+ line third party patch to fix unsupported software? Use the ABS.

You know nothing of this package, do you?

git clone git://yum.baseurl.org/urlgrabber.git
cd urlgrabber
git shortlog -s
20 James Antill
1 Jasper O'neal Hartline
1 Luke Macken
56 Seth Vidal
1 Tim Wegener
1 Toshio Kuratomi
3 Ville Skyttä
9 Zdenek Pavlas
96 Zdeněk Pavlas
113 mstenner
48 rtomayko

The only developer is Zdenek Pavlas, from RedHat, the second one, Michael Stenner has not touched the project since 2006.

Last upstream release was three years ago (3.9.1), since then Zdenek hasn't made a single release.

And urlgrabber is basically for yum, so no, those patches are not "third party", those patches are the new *upstream*.

So let me get this straight: urlgrabber is by yum, and for yum, and yum doesn't work in Arch Linux, because of urlgrabber, and you don't want to make it work?

Is that it? Why do you bother packaging urlgrabber for, then?

I forgot to mention, the big patch is from Zdenek Pavlas, and he basically takes the 'master' branch diff it from the 3.9.1 release, and a push it to the Fedora package.

If it makes you happier, I can do the diff directly from git, but it would be the same, and I would prefer to use something stable, like what they use in Fedora 18, who knows how many bugs would be in the newest 'master' branch.

urlgrabber is used by other, supported packages. If it is broken with those I'll switch it to git (if that fixes them).

If it is just yum, I suggest uploading a urlgrabber-git (or maybe python-urlgrabber-git) to the AUR and have it depend on that. Let me know if you want me to create the AUR package, I don't mind.
