Description:
New GLib2 (and related packages like gvfs, glib-networming, glibmm, libsoup) causes serious problems in some GTK-based applications, sometimes SLIM eats a full core of CPU, sometimes some software crashes and disappears from system tray, sometimes SLIM simply restarts while writing into dmesg, that xfce-session segfaulted. In addition, compiz's fusion-icon never appears on the system tray.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
glib2-2.36.1-1-x86_64
glibmm-2.36.0-1-x86_64
glibmm-2.36.0-1-x86_64

Downgrading all of them to the 2.34 versions solve every problem

xfce4-session[451]: segfault at ffffffff00000000 ip 00007f9802f24537 sp 00007fffb8eeba50 error 5 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3600.1[7f9802ec1000+fc000]

Steps to reproduce:
Install new glib2 and start an XFCE session in SLIM, use it for a day maximum, but sometimes minutes are enough. Sometimes everything looks fine for a short time, but the logout/shutdown/reboot doesn't work properly even after a minute.

I get the same behavior, reverting glib2 seems to fix it.

Someone else please try it! I don't dare, I have urgent deadlines and critical VMs running on the computer where I could test it. Sorry, I hope you get feedback soon from somewhere.

xfce4-session-git from AUR fixes it for me as well (using glib2-2.36.1-3).

According to the xfce bugtracker (comment 23), the two most recent commits contain the fix:

I have included the two upstream fixes in xfce4-session 4.10.0-7.

Let us know if the crashes are gone.

This bug seems related to another one: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/34892

I'm upgrading xfce4-session and glib2 now, I'll update with a result.

EDIT: Seems stable for me.

Thanks Evangelos!

I've upgraded to xfce4-session 4.10.0-7 from extra this morning (and glib2 is still 2.36.1-3). There have been no crashes throughout the day, so for me, this issue seems resolved.

I just upgraded xfce4-session and it works for me. Thanks a lot.
